The supreme court is the highest federal court in the united states off America it was established in New York ,1789 and was moved to Washington D.C in 1801 to up hold or re-enforce the constitution. There are over 7000 cases that are submitted to the court for appeals but the justices decide to hear only one-hundred out of the 7000.
To become a justice in you have to be appointed by the president himself. However, it is a lifelong position unless they decide to leave or are forced to but it takes most of the justices 5 years or so to get use to the job. The average justice is usually there for 16 continuous years.
Once they have come up with a final decision they write an opinionated paper on why they had made the decisions they had and an explanation on why they had sided toward one side or the other.
